Stockport Phoenix Basketball Club

The place to become a better player

More Medals for the Teams...

Phoenix Fire pull out all the stops to put on a great game in the finals at Amaechi, they run a close game for the first half against Storm, with one of our players deciding to quit in the second half. No one player is better than the whole team, so after a Time out to explain the situation to the team players, Fire burst back on court and created a storm of their own. A fantastic result that saw them create a 58 - 34 win ssecuring another Medal win for the team.

Phoenix Flames, after a tough season where most of the players were new, had some rough & tough games this season. They floated up and down the league table and after finally getting on with teamwork on court, ended in 3rd place in the league. This well deserved placing saw them battle out against Shooting stars, a team mainly of U14 national league players, for the playoffs. A very close game where any team could have taken the win, ended with a fantastic clock beating 3 from the Shooting Stars to steal the game. Determind to show the coach that the Flames were winners, the guys came the the final game confident and ready to play. Facing the league toppers Jaguars, yet another close game that saw the lead change often, the Flames kept control and secured a 4 point win, bringing another bronze medal to the club.

Great work from all involved, and a huge thanks to the players for their hard work, the Parents for their support and the Amaechi Centre for a great place to play basketball.

Xmas treats for the teams

The end of season parties this year will see the Fire team blasting their way through a maze of rooms, carrying a paintball gun, and trying to capture the enemy flag. They will need their wits about them as they dodge the enemy and work as a crack team of ruthless soldiers, hoping to defend and concour the badlands.

The Flames will need nerves of steel as they take on their very own Mount Everest! They will climb the walls of the indoor climbing centre, reaching heights of 30 metres, and absailing back down to earth. Who will be crowned the king of the hills, who will face their challenge and reach for the top?....... watch this space!

Finals at Reddish ballhall

Phoenix Flames end another season on a high. The young team of dedicated players ran the season with some impressive wins to finish on top spot. With the playoffs last week, the Flames were up against a strong Mighty Lakers in a game that was filled with fast ball action from both ends of the court. Flames dug deep and took the lead and a win to bring them to the Finals today. Again, the Flames were hungry for that gold trophy and the play from the start showed their committment to being worthy winners. A fantastic display of basketball from both teams brought the game to a thrilling climax with the Flames winning the game    33 - 28, and Liam winning the MVP trophy too! Well done to all who played, supported and enjoyed our final win and game at Reddish Ballhall.

Finals at Amaechi

Phoenix Fire came back strong in the Finals at the Amaechi Basketball centre tonight. They played against the Culcheth Bladers for a chance to grab a Bronze Medal in the 3rd and 4th play off. The game could have gone either way at half time, but with the team determined to prove their worth, they stepped up their game to steal a fantastic win with the final score of 57 - 44. Well done to all the players, and to Jason for his valued contribution in securing another winning medal for the club.

The best night out is for the ones that make this club what it is..... The Players.

A fun filled night at the Bowling Alleys at Parrswood. There will be games on the lanes and Lazer Quest to test your shooting skills, Sunday 7th December. See you there!

New Coach for Fire - Jason Barnes

Stockport Phoenix have got a fantastic new  coach on board, Jason Barnes has given his time and experience to helping the Fire team reach new heights. Jason has a vast knowledge of the game being a former player, coach and scout for new talent. We welcome Jason to the club and look forward to the skill and dedication he can bring to us.

Flames Win Title Oct 2008

Phoenix Flames win Gold and became the League Champions at Reddish Ball hall. The Flames have had a great season, beating every team they played, the only team to prevent us winning were the Diamonds, who gave us a fantastic game three weeks ago. The game was very intense and ended 33 - 33. Playoff time came and we were ready for game time, Star Shooters in the first round was over with a win to the Flames, and the Final was 1 week away against the Diamonds... This was going to be the best game of the season for both teams, with the score level at half time, every basket mattered. The two teams were gunning the ball in the basket and the croud were very vocal! All the players gave 100% effort and the end result showed how much, 33 - 34 at the final whistle to the Flames, a close game on Finals day is a fantastic way to end the season, both teams deserved to be there but only one can win Gold, Well done to the Flames on another Medal win. Thanks to the Diamonds for being the best opponents to play against.

New Season Sept '08

The new season has started and the Flames have already played a game. Phoenix Fire are ready to get back to the boards, but no game times have been given for the Amaechi. As soon as I get them, I will let you all know.

Phil.

Amazing Facts

28 June 2008, I made an effort to look at some stats for the teams.

Did you know there are over a 110 basketball teams playing at the Stockport Ballhall?

Phoenix Flames have become the 3rd highest points difference team, and that includes all the senior teams too!!

Now for the amazing fact in basketball...... they are the fourth highest scoring team in the whole centre!!!!! only beaten by 2 senior mens team and 1 senior womans team.

Congratulation to the team on this amazing feat.

Birthday Wishes

We at the club would like to wish Ann a very happy birthday!!

Hope you have a great day and be careful near all those candles!!

John Amaechi comes to town!

John Amaechi came to the Ballhall today and gave the Flames a game to remember. John was invited down to watch a game, with his massive presence, the team looked ready to step up and play big. It was not just the Flames that were excited, most of the Ballhall were awestruck to see the big guy courtside! It was great to have such a high profile NBA player, and home grown Stockport man supporting the local leagues. All at the club are grateful to him for his time and words of encouragement.

Frankie & Benny's

The Phoenix have been sponsored by Frankie & Benny's Didsbury, and we were invited down to the restuarant to have a taste of their excellent food. The club was welcomed by Sam and her staff, who made the evening great fun. Here are some photo's of the Fire and Flames at the restuarant, look in the photo gallery for more pictures.

Magic return to Phoenix

The guys from Manchester Magic, League champion winners only days ago, returned to give the teams a special training session. Andrew Mackay and Taner Adu dropped into the weekly session and gave the teams some playing tips. Phoenix are very proud to have such special friends who take an interest in the young players of the future. All the guys were put through their routines and completed a great hour with lots of fun and baskets!

Finals day at Reddish 15-3-08

What a fantastic end to the season for Phoenix Fire. This team has shown how to really enjoy the game and get the results they deserve. The last game for this team at the Reddish Ballhall was the Finals against the Heaton Giants. Fire put all their hard work and skill into the game and came out with the win win they deserved.

Phoenix Fire have played a fantastic season, the result is that they were unbeaten for all 19 games they played, League winners in the Premier Division and Gold winners in the Finals. Well done to everyone and keep the game play going in year 9/10.

Hope you both have a great birthday from all at the club!

Gold & Silver Wins for Phoenix

Phoenix have played some great ball this season, and the finals really were great to watch. Flames have taken on the challenge of playing up in 7/8 and with some great effort from all players, took home a piece of Silver in the Winter 07/08 season.

Fire have played some outstanding ball this season, being unbeaten in all games this season. The play offs and the Final were nerve crunching, all that hard work could be lost. The Fire proved to be worthy of their league winners and Gold winners for Amaechi winter 07/08. A formidable team, that has grown and developed into a group of fantastic people and great team players.

Xmas Party Dec 8

The Stockport Phoenix Xmas party went extremely well last night, with the Magic playing for a place in the finals, the Phoenix were there to give their support to the team. The Flames accompanied the players on court and we would like to thank all at the Amaechi Centre for the fantastic and warm support. The party after the game was a huge hit with some fantastic prizes being donated by Manchester Magic. The 1st prize of a signed Baden basketball was won by Josh from the Flames. All players recieved a prize and a goody bag, and there was loads of food for the group. I would like to thank all the parents for the total support and help in getting this event to happen, also for the kind gifts that we recieved.

Magic arrive at Stockport Phoenix

Manchester Magic forward, Andrew MacKay, gave a surprise visit to the Phoenix training today. Andrew took the training session with the Flames and Fire, giving some valuable tips on how to better your game and play at your best. Liam Johnson also came along to give some great assistance. The teams were very pleased with the visit and the excitement will spur the guys on for weeks to come. Andrew was impressed with the quality of basketball that the children displayed, he was so keen to see more of what the teams can do, he has promised to come back again in the new year and see how the guys are developing. Many thanks to the Magic players for their devotion to the club.

End of Season - Reddish 6 Oct 07

It's finally arrived, the playoffs have happened and the final games for Fire and Flames take place today. What a fantastic effort these guys have put in, they have deserved all that they got today, and that is to take on all the other teams and clubs, along with starting from scratch in a new club, developing into a great basketball team. Both the Fire and Flames played great ball today and both walked away as runner up in the League play offs. Second place for two teams is FANTASTIC! Well done Phoenix,  It's all good.

Club Ref

Congratulations to Colin on passing your referee course, now please don't give me a technical when I start my sideline show !  Well done.

Thanks due

A big thank you to Uzma and Colin for their time and support, helping with the coaching was a lifesaver, (almost) and getting the Fire into the finals is fantastic! Thank you both.

Amaechi Games

Well done to both teams tonight, they both had some tough games and even though some of the team had played in three games, they still put in an excellent performance. Your ability to perform to your best is the reason that I love working with you, keep it up and stay focussed.

ABC off to a flying start 14 Sept

The new season has started at Amaechi Basketball Centre, the Flames started their games here today and Fire moved upto premier division. Both games went well and we came away with two wins, a great start for all players. Well done to you all.

Reddish League

As some of you eagle eyed players noticed, the league tables were not showing the real results of the current league. I have asked the Ball Hall to clarify the situation and update the league board to show the correct points.

Summer camp for basketball at the ball hall in Reddish, 25\26\27 July, 0161 480 2223

The Phoenix night out went well with all the players having a great time at the bowling. Click Here for pics.

End of season playoffs at the Amaechi went well, we were up against Parklands for bronze and after a very tense start, Fire managed to win and take home the medal. Parklands walk away with the title of League Winners, a very proud title to behold, well done.

We held a small party for the players and parents after the games and all players recieved another trophy and certificate. Phil and Nev also had a Trophy for coaching the team. We would also like to say thanks to all the parents for your support and help throughout the season, thank you.

Its not all about basketball, we love to shout about other achievements that the team do. Adam, Carter and Liam have all received awards from their school. They have all made a fantastic effort in their school life and this has been recognised and rewarded. Well done to all of you, to excel in your school and improve your game every week is something to shout about.

Scott has won two awards from his school and has to win the prize for the most dedicated team member, he was awarded a prize from school for a weekend in the lake district and he turned it down as it would clash with the game he plays on Saturday! WOW now thats dedication.

I would like to thank Mike Nichols for the gift of some basketballs, bibs and a ball holdall. These will come in very useful for training and I am grateful for the donation. Thank you.

With 6 players from the club on trails for Manchester Magic, we went to a tournament at the Amaechi centre on 24 June. This was a well organised event and had players from three teams from the Amaechi playing against the new national team from Reddish Rebels. A round robin tournament which tested the players strength and fitness, a good turn out of parents to encourage the games and a sneak preview of what the new season will bring. Some great basketball was on show and this is going to be an exciting season to watch. With the level skill on show and the fast pace of the games, Reddish put up a vallient fight of taking on three top class teams, and although they walked away without a win, I am sure they took home a more valuable lesson, National League is a tough place to play, and winning is never an easy option. A good day out was had by all.

Another good news day, Sharon and Jane have passed a child protection course and this is great news for the Club.

CONGRATULATIONS Ben on passing your coaching course. A great asset to the club and the team are very proud to have you as their coach.

The first team day out for Josh's Birthday. Sun and Fun was on the menu and we had loads of both! Click Here for some pics of the day. Happy Birthday Josh.

A fun night out for the players is being organised. Let me know where you want to go and I can sort it out for you. It will be the end of July.

Great news, the Blades have asked to join our club and we have welcomed them aboard. They have a great team and will be an asset for us. They will merge with Phoenix Flames and make this team a force to be feared.

Have you looked at the BallHall web site yet? It has all the info you need to keep up to date with your team. Click here for a direct link.(opens in new window)

2 May, Well done to Phoenix Fire, just 3 games into the new season and you get put up to TOP division! Could this be because you are the best team playing in Reddish? Well done and keep playing your best basketball.

NEW KIT ARRIVED........ WOW it looks fantastic and all the team are going to look like superstars when they wear them for the first time this Weekend.

Well done to Manchester Magic. Making it to the Finals was no easy task, coming home with a 102 - 94 loss to Worthing. We look forward to getting back to support you again in the new season when it begins in October.
